In today's generation, a lot people get easily stressed out due to the fast-paced lifestyle that we have nowadays. For each individual, there are different kinds of stressors that causes he/she to be stressed. For students, there's studies, friends and parents to be worried about. For adults, there's work and money problems to be bothered about. Stress can become a big problem if one doesn't know how to manage it. If it gets unnoticed or set aside, then it can eventually take control of your life and may lead to health problems in extreme cases. As we all know, stress can actually shorten one's life-span. Therefore, it shouldn't be shrugged off as something unimportant.
In class, we were asked to fill out a Stress Inventory form which will tell us how much stressed we are. I got a score of 124 which indicates that the stress level isn't that high. We were also asked to reflect and think of the things that have lead us to be stressed for the past few months. I would personally say that I have been really stressed for these past few months and I will be indicating some of the factors. First and foremost, I am very stressed out over my majors in accounting as I am a BSA student. We have this modular system in the accountancy program and I find that it doesn't suit my studying style very much. That's why I am having a hard time coping up with it's fast-paced feeding and processing of information.
Due to my majors, I haven't really had the time to do the things I want to do such as my hobbies. I find that I have been bumming out a lot for these past few months and I feel really unproductive because I have only been focusing on my studies without taking much of a break and I do think that I need a real break right now. I definitely can't wait for Christmas vacation to start. Five days after the term isn't exactly called a break in my opinion. There are some more smaller factors as to why I get stressed out but I won't be mentioning them anymore.
It's a good thing we had discussed how to deal with stress in class as a form of self-management. Some tips given (as seen in the handout) are to: become aware of your stressors, bring attention to your breath, improve your EQ, change you attitudes and perceptions of stress, set goals, manage your time, take care of your body, and take it easy. I find that these are very helpful advice as how to manage stress.
In the end, it all comes down on not letting stress control my life. Even if I have to focus on my studies, I can still take small breaks and relax a bit such as going out with mom during Sundays, taking naps, meditating, etc. But listening to music and reading fanfictions are my form of break and relaxation most of the time. Hopefully, I'll learn to manage my time more efficiently and to appreciate the smaller things life has to give in order for me not to get stressed out too much.
